Where Bucs' White, Dolphins' Achane Rank Among NFL’s Most Undervalued Running Backs

Few NFL running backs were able to build a national following through their on-field conquests like a pair of young ballcarriers that represent the Sunshine State on the professional level. Between Miami Dolphins rookie back De'Von Achane and Tampa Bay Buccaneers second-year back Rachaad White, there has definitely been a fair amount of return on the relatively scant investment that both teams put into the pair of third-round draft picks.

Among the litany of NFL running backs that played across the 32 teams of the league in 2023-24, Achane and White were among the most efficient when it came to yards per dollar earned, thanks to the former carrying a $905,293 salary cap hit and the latter a $1,165,909 figure.

For this study, FloridaBet.com, your source for Florida sports betting updates, used ProFootballReference.com for the salary cap hit and yards (rushing and receiving only) of every NFL running back in the 2023-24 NFL regular season. We then calculated dollars per yard for each player in the league to determine the 10 most value-driven RBs this season. Salary and yards were included for all teams that the player was on this season.

White & Achane Among Most Undervalued NFL Backs In 2023

Among NFL running backs, only one player did better on a dollar-per yard basis in 2023-24 than White, who gained 1,539 yards on a $1,165,909 salary cap hit — netting out to $757 per yard. The only back that finished with a lower total was Kyren Williams of the Los Angeles Rams, who had 1,350 yards on a $947,601 cap hit, resulting in a $702 per-yard figure.

Achane ranked a bit lower on the NFL’s leaderboard, ranking seventh overall after gaining 997 yards on a $905,293 cap hit, for a $908 per yard total. Achane ranked behind James Cook of the Buffalo Bills ($846 per all-purpose yard) and ahead of No. 9 Brian Robinson Jr. of the Washington Commanders ($1,041 per all-purpose yard).

When it came to Average Value rankings (via Pro-Football-Reference.com), White’s 10 AV figure ranked in a tie with Williams for the second highest total of anyone in the top 10, behind Cook’s total of 13 AV, with Isiah Pacheco (8 AV), Jaylen Warren and Robinson (7 AV each), Jerome Ford and Chuba Hubbard (6 AV each) rounding out the list.
